Obverse Design:
 
The obverse features the second crowned and draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, surrounded by the inscription "ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRATIA · REGINA · F : D :," which translates to "Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith." This design was created by Arnold Machin.
 
Reverse Design:
 
The reverse shows the classic depiction of St. George on horseback, slaying the dragon. St. George is a symbol of England and represents bravery and chivalry. The dragon symbolizes evil or chaos. The date (1984) and the initials "B.P." (Benedetto Pistrucci) appear in the exergue below the image. Pistrucci's design is one of the most enduring and beloved images in British coinage history.
