The obverse was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, the creator of the Queen’s fourth definitive portrait, while the reverse was designed by Emma Noble.
 
At the centre of the obverse are the conjoined busts of Queen Elizabeth II (in the foreground, to the left) and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (in the background, to the right), both facing right.
To the left is the monarch’s legend, ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRA · REG · F · D · (translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith), with her husband’s legend, PHILIP · PRINCEPS (from Latin: Philip, Prince), around the right.
 
The reverse depicts the Rose Window of Westminster Abbey (the site of the Royal Wedding). Above is the inscription TVEATVER VNITA DEVS (God, protect the Union).
